Science Island (Mokslo Sala) is Lithuania’s first Science and Innovation Promotion Centre, bringing together cultural and educational programmes on Nemunas Island in Kaunas. The centre features over 140 installations, a state-of-the-art planetarium, and four laboratories.
Vilnius-based multidisciplinary architecture and branding studio Praktika developed the full visual identity, including a custom typeface, wayfinding, signage, and web design.

Typefaces in Use
At the heart of the identity is a single universal graphic element: the dot. Appearing across natural and human-made systems, from distant stars and planetary forms to cellular structures, atomic particles, Morse code, Braille, and digital interfaces, the dot serves as a unifying symbol, connecting science, learning, and design.
The dot principle shaped the creation of the custom Mokslo Sala Dot typeface, built entirely on a dot-grid structure. Its controllable weight range allows light forms to merge with the grid, while heavier forms connect organically. The typeface works alongside the Science Island symbol, both structured purely through dots and grid logic.
Dot-based visuals extend seamlessly to illustration and photography, creating a flexible, scalable identity. Over time, visitors become part of the system, as portraits integrate with the dot graphics, reinforcing Science Island’s mission to make science participatory, curious, and alive.
Praktika
Praktika is a multidisciplinary architecture and branding studio defined by an open yet rigorously structured approach to creating purposeful work with enduring cultural relevance. The studio, led by Rokas Sutkaitis (1995) and Julius Seniūnas (1993), specialises in cultural, spatial, and future-minded brand identities. The team has collaborated since 2017, with their first major project being Kaunas – European Capital of Culture 2022.
