Saintlo is a youth hostel collective named after the second-longest river in Canada, the Saint Lawrence River. Montréal-based design studio Caserne developed the visual identity of Saintlo, highlighting the distinctive qualities of each property, highlighting local attractions, and reinforcing the organisation's position as a leader in group lodging.
Drawing on the team's camping and travel experiences accumulated over the years, Caserne sought to unravel the elements that made these experiences memorable and the reasons behind their continued loyalty to certain brands when travelling. A key factor emerged from this exploration: trust. The studio recognised that the brands they repeatedly gravitated towards had consistently cultivated a sense of reliability and dependability, instilling confidence and fostering customer connections.
Caserne created a contrasting primary colour palette for Saintlo, inspired by the scenic landscapes surrounding the hostels and the vibrant hues often found on travellers and camping gear. The objective was to have two vibrant colours complementing any other shades within the palette while maintaining a minimal aesthetic.
By incorporating illustrations into Saintlo's visual toolbox, Caserne sought to capture and showcase the unique and welcoming atmosphere of the Saintlo hostels. The illustrations provided Saintlo with an effective tool highlighting key aspects of the hostels' experience and showcasing the range of activities available in the surrounding area, the vibrant atmosphere within the hostels, and the potential for hosting tailor-made events.
